Google Search app for Android updated (update)

Today's the day for updates to Google's Android apps. The latest to get a revision is the company's main Search app, which sees a slew of new features and minor tweaks. That includes the ability to display a related website based on your current location, as well as offer sports and flight updates in realtime instead of on a 15-minute delay. Beyond that, you'll now be able to set reminders based on things like album or book releases, view event tickets from select websites, and see additional Smart TV cards (which require an actual smart TV) for news and music that's currently on your TV. Another feature that's said to be "rolling out gradually" is the ability to automatically tell others when you've left work. Update: We'll have to cool our jets for now -- while there is a fresh APK for Google Search in the Play Store, it appears the features in the changelog are just hanging around from the last update. We'll let you know if anything new and interesting surfaces (with the pace of updates rolling out today, a Google change-tracker dashboard would be nice).

Nexus 7 Tablet Launched By Google

गूगल और आसुस ने हाल ही में नेक्सस 7 टैबलेट लॉंच की है। इस टैबलेट की 7 इंच की स्क्रीन फुल एचडी रेजोल्यूशन (1920X1200) वाली है। इस टैबलेट की खास बात यह है कि इससे पहले आए नेक्सस टैबलेट की तुलना में नेक्सस 7 करीब 2एमएम पतला और 500 ग्राम कम वजन वाला है। यह टैबलेट आपको वाइ-फाइ और एलटीई (लॉंग टर्म एवोल्यूशन) वर्जन में उपलब्ध होगा। 

हालांकि अभी तक इस बात को स्पष्ट नहीं किया गया है कि नेक्सस 7 टैबलेट भारतीय मार्केट में कब प्रवेश करेगा लेकिन इस डिवाइस का बेसिक मॉडल करीब 229 डॉलर में अमेरिका में मिलेगा तो आप अंदाजा लगा ही सकते हैं कि जब यह टैबलेट भारत में आएगा तो इसकी कीमत क्या होगी। सूत्रों की मानें तो अभी ऐसी कोई उम्मीद भी नहीं है कि यह टैबलेट भारतीय बाजार में जल्दी लॉंच होने वाला है। 

पतले डिजाइन और वजन में हलके होने के साथ-साथ इस टैबलेट का इंटरनल हार्डवेयर भी लाजवाब है। क्वाड-कोर 1.5 गीगाहर्ट्ज स्नैपड्रैगन प्रो चिप और एड्रीनो 320 ग्राफिक्स चिप पर काम करने वाली नेक्सस 7 टैबलेट का बेसिक मॉडल आपको 16 जीबी इंटरनल मेमोरी और 2जीबी रैम के साथ मिलेगा। आप इसकी मेमोरी को 32 जीबी तक बढ़ा भी सकते हैं। नेक्सस 7 टैबलेट का रियर कैमरा 5 मेगापिक्सल का है और फ्रंट कैमरा 1.2 मेगापिक्सल का है, जिससे कि आप वीडियो चैट, वीडियो कफेंसिंग आदि का फायदा उठा सकते हैं। 

नेक्सस 7 टैबलेट एंड्रायड 4.3 पर काम करेगा और साथ ही नेक्सस टैबलेट के पुराने वर्जन नेक्सस 4, पुराना नेक्सस 7 को भी एंड्रायड के लेटेस्ट वर्जन के साथ अपडेट किया गया है। 

एंड्रायड प्रोडक्ट मैनेजमेंट के उपाध्यक्ष हुगो बर्रा का दावा है कि इस टैबलेट का प्रोसेसर पिछले नेक्सस 7 की तुलना में 80 प्रतिशत तेजी से काम करेगा। इतना ही नहीं यह भी दावा किया गया है कि ग्राफिक्स के क्षेत्र में भी यह टैबलेट पिछले नेक्सस टैबलेटों से 400प्रतिशत बेहतर साबित होगा।

Bing Boards introduce curated content, alliteration to search results

Bing might not yet have achieved true verb status, but it's definitely making all the right moves to get there. The latest twist on search? Curated content in search results. It's an experimental feature at the moment -- live in the US, but possibly not all territories just yet -- that delivers collections of images, videos or links relating to your query a-la Google's Knowledge Graph, but curated by a person (not an algorithm). Microsoft's testing the waters with a hand-picked selection of food and lifestyle bloggers right now, but hopes to expand this to more topics as the idea grows. Google Mine service reportedly leaked, lets Google+ friends share real goods

Google is big on sharing all things virtual, but it hasn't done a lot to spread the wealth in the physical world. That could change soon: Google Operating System claims to have spotted an in-development Google Mine service that can simplify lending tangible goods. Users can list what they're sharing, offer items to their Google+ circles and keep track of who has what. The web version can reportedly show a collection in 3D through a WebGL viewer named Katamari, and there's also an Android app in tow.

The feature set sounds ideal for generous Google+ users; the real question is whether we'll get to use any of it. Mine is supposedly limited to internal testing for now, and only some of Google's initiatives ever leave its campus. Google hasn't confirmed the effort, but the company tells us that it's "always experimenting" with features and doesn't have anything to share "at this time." Connected borrowers will just have to be patient, then -- assuming the service launches at all.
